Information Guide
Thank you for your interest in our Campeche Adventure Tour. If you haven't heard of Campeche before its okay, not many Americans have. Campeche is located in the southeast of Mexico in the Yucatan Peninsula, surrounded by the pristine blue waters of the Caribbean and the Gulf of Mexico.
For the past several years we have been trying to organize a tour into the interior of Mexico. To find the perfect location has not been easy, multiple factors had to fall into place before we would even consider organizing a trip into Mexico.
- The location had to be a place that was absolutely breath taking and not visited by many Americans.
- The location needed to be rich in history and culture, with something to offer to people of all ages.
- The location / city needed to be on the on the water, located close to major archaeological and ecotourism sites.
- The convenience of a local airport was also a factor in finding the right location.
- The location needed to be a place where it was safe for tourists to walk the streets at night with their families.
- One of the most important factors is to have the support and cooperation of the local government, elected officials and local businesses.
The City of San Francisco de Campeche, the state's capitol, was originally an old Mayan trading port. Spanish Conquistadors came to Campeche in 1517. Pirates attacked the city on a regular basis until 1668 when Campeche was fortified with a city wall ten (10) feet thick.
Wealthy merchants and traders built stunningly beautiful houses and haciendas; today hundreds of these have been carefully restored to their former glory and repainted with the original soft pastel colors used in the past. In 1999 UNESCO declared Campeche a World Heritage Site.
This adventure tour is the first of its kind and was specially developed in conjunction with the city and state tourism departments along with local businesses. This tour is also limited and reservations will be taken on a first come first serve basis.
